The Imaginary World of the CBC
The CBC has produced useful and interesting content over many decades, but more recently, they have increasingly served as a platform for state propaganda and censorship.
This is fairly important as CBC radio is so familiar on these islands, and the decay so gradual that it’s easy to see how so many missed it. Here are a few brief examples:
The recent Allison Inquiry, broadcast live from Parliament Hill in Ottawa 8-11 Sep 2026 is ignored. As of this writing (14 Sep), a search of the CBC website yields not a single mention of this event let alone coverage of it. It’s also worth noting the similar omission of the NCI (National Citizens Inquiry) ongoing since 2023.
Consider the 2022 Freedom Convoy or “trucker protest” in Ottawa, specifically the end of it, when Mounties rode down the line between peaceful protesters and unmarked riot squad. The CBC was there with cameras rolling yet the video strangely cuts off and their “coverage” continues in text describing a false narrative which is clearly contradicted by video from several independent cameras. The CBC ran many false stories misrepresenting that protest and its protestors, including staged photographs of Nazi and confederate flags.
Suffice it to say: The CBC has clearly engaged in gross censorship and disinformation.
“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized.” —Edward Bernays (Propaganda, 1928)
