LOVE THE FREESTORE
A cleaning work bee is scheduled for Sunday October 18th at 1:00 and your help is essential.
Location: Old School, 5901 Denman Road
Open: Thursday 3 – 5 and Saturday 9 – 12:30
HISTORY , the short version
After the new school in downtown Denman Island opened the Marcus Isbister School (now the Old School) was closed, acquired by the Islands Trust and rented for 99 years to the Denman Island Residents Association in September 1993.
During that time, the Hornby Island Free Store was popular and an empty space was available in half the basement of the Old School. Denman Islander Jennifer Inderwick asked a group of ladies, including Anne Jansen and Audrey Egan what they thought about opening a Freestore on Denman. Their enthusiasm and hard work helped to establish the Denman Reusable Store (aka the Freestore) which opened in September 1994 (32 years ago). Theirs and countless other volunteers contributed their unique abilities to make the Denman Freestore the exceptional community experience it is today.
FREESTORE NOW
Today, 15 volunteers are able to keep the stock moving and perform basic cleaning however a lot more needs to be done such as washing shelves, washing floors, washing walls and removing cobwebs. We are organizing a cleaning work bee for Sunday afternoon on October 18th starting at 1PM. Please help, this is your chance to pay back!
