‘Bells of Christmas’

I was about to call it a day

The walk was such a pleasant way

When a lady called out to say

Did you hear the Bells of Christmas today?

She said it was her favourite tradition

To listen to the rendition

Without any conditions

The clear sound of inspiration.

I recalled climbing long winding stairs to the rooftop

Past the great bells, I came to a stop

The ringers were watching the clock

In silence, we all stopped our talk.

We listened for the magic

Of the ringing sounds so fantastic

For with no bells, it would be tragic

It keeps us from becoming plastic.

Down, down, I came to become grounded

To the waiting world it all sounded

Like a page from the past that had ended

In Christmas now we only pretended.

For Christmas is not ‘Happy holidays’

That leave us in a daze

This is a Holy season

Have we forgot the reason?

The bells toll to tell

Of a message to dwell

Upon the sounds from above

For the reason for being – is Love!
