Monster Hunters ch.3

“But what about my parents?” asked Ben. He wondered how they would react to such a thing happening to him out of the blue. This was supposed to be a normal day at middle school. “A normal day…” thought Ben, “A normal day…” But very far from a normal day it had turned out. “We have contacted your parents, Ben.” replied Robbie, “They think that you’ve been shipped off to a fun spring break camp. “How long will I be here with you then?” asked Ben. “Up to five months if it all works out,” replied Johnny. But there was no more time to talk. They were now in front of a huge wooden gate that had the letters M.H. on it. ” Banana loaf!” said Robbie. The gate swung open. The first thing that Ben noticed was that there were students training in combat with weapons. The school itself looked ginormous. In Ben’s eyes, it was the biggest structure that he had ever laid eyes on. The roof of the school had an old, almost ancient look to it. The dark shade of brown that covered every inch of the monstrous building, looking like it was made of wood. Three watch towers were positioned at the very top of the building along with a massive flagpole with a picture of a scary demon. “That’s the symbol for the school,” said Johnny. “Does anyone get hurt here?” asked Ben. “The people are highly trained here,” replied Robbie. “Unless you count the Darkening. ” Robbie’s expression suddenly turned pale. “What’s the Darkening?” asked Ben. ” We should get going!” said Robbie quickly. He then guided all four of them to an empty classroom. “Ben, give me your wishing coins,” demanded Robbie. “But I only used that one.” said Ben. He stuck his hand in his pocket. There were somehow ten more coins all bearing the picture of a demon with words that read;
Only bring forth the magic in this coin when times are desperate.
“Keep those safe,” said Robbie. Ben pocketed them and waved to Robbie. After a quick wave back, he was gone. Ben almost forgot all about how a nine-foot man had showed up at his middle school and taken him to a mysterious school. He tried to clear his mind about what had happened and focused on the inside of the empty classroom. “Where is everyone?” asked the girl. This was the first time she had spoken. “Wait… do you go here?” asked Ben. ” Yes, I do.” replied the girl. Ben nodded and turned to Johnny. “Do you?” Ben asked in shock, pointing at Johnny. Johnny just sighed and stared at the wall. The classroom looked like a piece of fantasy from a book. The walls were lined with posters of goblins and elves, evil wizards, and demons. “What is this classroom for?” asked Ben. He was getting close to his breaking point. “This classis called defense/protection against evil.” answered Johnny. There was a long silence. Finally, Johnny broke the silence by mumbling: “Hey Mr.Goodsnick.” Ben was startled to find a man dressed in a brown sweater standing next to him. “Ah!… I see that you have brought the sword slayer.” said the man as he turned to Ben. He then left the room. “WHAT IS GOING ON?” Ben couldn’t take it anymore. Too many lies. Too much information. Too much unbelievable stuff. He needed to know. “What is happening?!” He would ask this question one million times until he knew what was going on. “Look… try not to get too shocked, but you are our forces against evil.” said Johnny. “You are the only person who can stop…” “Stop what?” asked Ben. “I-It’s complicated.” That was all, Johnny said. “Please just tell me!” said Ben, “Finding out that my best friend is magical… please just tell me!” He repeated. There was a long pause between the three kids. Soon Ben spoke up again. “This started out as a normal school day, then I magically changed my hoodie, then this huge man shows up out of nowhere, he tells me about magical coins that I own, then he tells me that I’m a Monster Hunter. Then my best friend and a random girl showed up. And then…” “Okay, okay,” said Johnny. “I understand, you’ve been through a lot in the last hour.” He paused. ” Would you like to know?” Ben was about to say yes, but by the look on Johnny’s face, he wasn’t so sure. “Tell me,” Ben finally spoke. “Okay, I will,” came the reply, “But the story is not a good one.”
